Russian language students of the Russian American Community Center of Florida (RACCF) attended a field to the Kennedy Space Center on April 9, 2011. The trip involved students from statewide RACCF centers who came to learn more about the history of space exploration and how Russian and America have competed and shared in those endeavors. The trip was part of multiple events sponsored by RACCF during April 2011 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarins launch into orbit on April 12, 1961. Other events include a special learning program for the students, an art contest for children, a Russian style picnic in the park, and a special viewing of the film “First Orbit” at an evening dinner party in Orlando.
